Welcome to the new Physics OCS software download page. You will notice some differences from the previous page. Linux and Solaris software requests have not changed - they still go to our Physics OCS server. When you follow the links for either Windows of Macintosh software, however, you will find yourself at the LSAIT SWL Software Download page. A list of available software titles will be before you. Simply click on the title you are interested in. You will be directed to a page for that piece of software. At the bottom you will see "Request this title". If the software can also be installed/downloaded across the network, you will see "Download this Title". (The number of downloadble packages should continue to increase over time - it's usually a matter of somebody having to take the time to copy the software to the distribution server and properly configure it.) If you choose "Request this title", you will see a "Request Software" form. Fill that out and click "Send". OCS will receive an email telling us which title you would like, along with any contact information you entered. In addition, an email with the license code for the requested software will be sent to the email account you entered into the form. If you choose "Download this Title", you will be prompted to login, using your LSA Windows user name and password (Note: this is *not* your ITD/ITCS or LSA Kerberos password - the Windows password is for a separate account). If you do not have an LSA Windows account, simply contact OCS for one (physics.ocs@umich.edu, (734)763-9756, 2428 Randall Labs). If you have such an account but have forgotten the password, you would also need to contact OCS to change your password. Once you authenticate, just click "Continue" at the bottom of the Software License/Legal page. Next you will be asked to confirm that the system identified you correctly. Assuming so, click, "Yes". It is at this point that an email containing the software's license code is sent to the email address you confirm. (For "concurrent" licenses, you will have to click "Yes" yet again on the next page to accept the license agreement.) At this point you have 2 options. You can choose "Open" to start the installation process from the remote server. Alternatively, you can click "Save" to copy the executable installation file to your computer. You can then double click it 'locally' to start the installation. Whether you chose "Open" or "Save", during the software installation, when asked for the license code, just enter the code emailed to you previously. We hope that having this ability to install software yourself will make the process faster and easier for everyone. You can also install software during non-business hours, since OCS doesn't need to be directly involved.
Questions, just ask (physics.ocs@umich.edu, (734)763-9756).
